DID YOU KNOW that every time you breathe your core, heart and brain respond in some way?
The diaphragm is your deep breathing muscle – specifically the main inhaling muscle. Along with the internal back muscles of the mutifidi, the pelvic floor and the transversus abdominus, your diaphragm forms part of your core component.
In a well-integrated core all the components respond in turn, giving just enough support to stabilise without creating excess tension or stress. Breathing & consciously activating your diaphragm is one of the best ways to organise all the parts of your core.
Your diaphragm also:
- connects to the organs of lungs & heart – NB for their health
- stimulates the vagus nerve – NB for inducing states of relaxation
