Whether you sit a lot at work or practice sports, tension builds up in the muscles and connective tissue encasing the muscles and the entire body (known as fascia). This causes the body to feel tight, sore and tired, often leading to weakness and injury. Foam rolling, also known as myofascial release, is the application of pressure to eliminate scar-tissue and soft-tissue adhesion by freeing up your fascia and releasing trigger points (knots) in muscles.

The goal of myofascial release is to stretch and loosen the fascia so that it and other structures can move more freely. Problems related to tight fascia and muscles clear up with regular releasing. This results in decreased muscle and joint pain, increased circulation and improved mobility, balance and gait. In short, myofascial release through the use of a foam roller helps to free tension, strengthen the body, reduce the risk of injury and assist in feeling better.
