The ISHTA Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, held at Life Retreat Studio, was hosted by Fran Siebrits and Ryan Edmonds.
The first few months saw the practitioners deepening their understanding of yoga. The course came to a close with an away retreat at an ashram just outside Robertson. These 4 days were an intensive, ashram experience, preparing the trainees with initiation and graduation ceremonies to complete their certification.
To give the practitioners a cound foundation from which to grow, the course explored:
- Yoga Philosophy – its history, origins, ancient texts and the eight limbs of the path (ashtanga).
- Meditation & the Mind
- Breathing techniques & Pranayama
- Energetic Anatomy – the chakras, mantras, sound, colour, breath
- Anatomy, Asana & Alignment (physiological)
- Physiology & Asana (physiological and energetic)
- Teaching style & Voice
- Creating & holding space
- Hands-on adjustments
- Building confidence in oneself & ones students
- Class structure & sequencing
- Business, teaching and yogic lifestyle ethics
- Setting up for a professio as a yoga teacher
- An immersion into the yogic lifestyle, which teaches conscious living… on all levels. This aids the practitioner to better understand and progress along the yogic path.
The training period includes theory, practice, and the development of one’s own unique teaching toolkit. To certify, all 200 contact hours with the teacher, assignments and readings must be complete. This is then followed by a practical teaching assessments and theory exam.
